OCR: Blobal Nears Lettuce kills early explorers! The lechuguilla plant (this spanish name means 'little lettuce') is found in the Chihuahuan desert, and was a dangerous obstacle to the exploration of the American southwest. Its sharp leaves often pierced horses legs, and riders that fell off were sometimes impaled by the plants's leaves. Even today, off-road vehicles sometimes have their tires punctured by small lechuguilla leaves. CLICK TO ENLARGE PHOTOGRAPH
